Last week, we finally reached our goal of a clear pantry (and refrigerator... and freezer). Of course with a few random items- hot fudge that my grandma bought for us (in light of Monday's post- just what I need), an extra can of cherries, lots of booze, and a few other must-have staples, like Ovaltine, Nutella, and gourmet hot chocolate.
And now, in good conscious, I am off to do a bit of stocking up. I've got apple-filled pop-tarts to bake, Taco Soup to toss into the slow cooker, and lasagna to layer and freeze. {The tarts turned out amazing (combined both recipes) and were incredibly simple to make, but I only used up ONE large apple! Looks like there will be more tarts (and all things apple) in my very near future.}
* If you'd like to do a little slow cooking yourself, make sure you check out today's recipe... Mediterranean Pot Roast... Mmmm.
I love this post, my mom was amazingly creative with food she cooked the most amazing dishes out of a couple of veggies and pasta. Yum!
ReplyDeleteI love this. Something I for sure need to try and do.
ReplyDeleteAs usual, I'm so impressed with your productivity and resourcefulness. I try to create meals sometimes with what I have at home, but it's hard! I need to try harder though and I really need to do a major cleanout of my kitchen too. Maybe this weekend. Thanks for the inspiration, Torrie!

"making do" is one of my favorite phrases. i need to put into action more often and teach my children to do the same. and not just in the kitchen. =) great post.
ReplyDeleteseriously I am so hooked on your recipe posts it's not even funny. that taco soup and the lasagna sound yummy and I think this weekend I should give one of them a try. I might need to do some stocking up too!!! (thanks for your sweet comments Torrie)

Good for you for cleaning out your pantry - I can't even remember the last time I did that :( I definitely need to put that on my to-do list!
ReplyDeleteGreat job! I need to be more creative in clearing out the pantry, rather than packing up the misc odd items for the USPS food pantry drive!
ReplyDeleteThis is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I get creative when I am feeling lazy and don't want to go to the grocery store, but I need to make more of a habit of using what we have!!
That red tin of amaretti cookies you have in your pantry just brought back memories!! Those were my grandfather's favorite! I always used to sneak some from his tin and hide them in my shirt! ha ha
...off to see if I have the ingredients for homemade apple pop tarts!! mmmmm!!
i got through those moods too! you just get bogged down :) cute blog!
ReplyDeletefantastic post. much agreed on jora's inspiration.
ReplyDeleteWell done! When I got back from all of our travels, the first thing I did was clean my empty refrigerator out. My pantry isn't exactly povera, but it is well-stocked for fall and winter!
ReplyDeletei LOOOVE taco soup.
ReplyDeleteI love this idea...my pantry is always full yet I'm always at the grocery store - now I'm inspired to get creative - Thank you!!
ReplyDeleteYour post is inspiring me too since I really need to clean out and organize my pantry once more. My pantry is rather embarrassing at the moment especially because I also keep our art/craft supplies in there, which means the kids think they can create all sorts of art in there. Eek!
ReplyDeleteAGAIN, I made the mistake of coming here without eating first! Now my taste buds are whining for something...anything. But I am excited because Torrie, I finally made that macaroni and cheese dish earlier this week and it was terrific! I doubled the recipe because hubby is a rather big eater but I think we had half of it left over, which is a good thing because now it can be the side dish for something else today! It was so yummy. My husband said it was the best macaroni and cheese he's ever had. Honestly, it reminds us of a dish we love at Corner Bakery called "Pesto Cavatappi." Creamy, with a little bit of crunch and altogether delicious! Thank you so much for the recipe! :-)
Oh my, apple-filled pop tarts. That sounds amazing! I need to try that.
ReplyDeleteI love doing this! You feel so good when you have created so much out of what many think is nothing! Thanks fo the inspiration....my pantry is now calling...
ReplyDeleteFirst of all, terrific cabinets! Your organization provides the highlight they deserve. I love using what you've got- it takes a creative mind to be inspired and tantalize the taste buds
