A good friend is in town, and has offered to take me out to dinner, and stay at her hotel for the evening.  WaitShouldn't it be the other way around?  Shouldn't I be hosting her?  Either way, I am thrilled (on a weeknight!!) to pack my bag and head to Newport Beach for a little shoppin', lots of much-needed-catching-up, and a ritzy meal.

Along with cooking, friendship sadly fell by the wayside for a brief (or maybe not-so-brief) period of my life.  My plate may not have been filled with homemade food (made by me anyway), but it was FULL.  Right after/during college, my life pretty much consisted of... Work. Marriage. Work. Kids. Work.  I had plenty of "friends" - at the 'office', my Mom, the grocery store clerk, my best friend of all, my husband.  What more could I ask find time for?

Slowing down a bit has taught me otherwise.  Simply put and sappy as can be...

Friends make my world bigger, brighter, bolder, and better.

  1. i love this! i hope you have an awesome staycation! (sorta "stay" i guess!)

i know what you mean about friendship. i don't live close to any of my good friends from high school or college, so i feel like those friendships have suffered, simply from distance. hoping that can change! and i do have great new friends, so that helps!
work and daily life sometimes gets in the way of having fun time!

  2. It's so true! Sometimes I get all caught up in work and family and friends somehow fall to the wayside. What a fun day/night you have planned in newport! Enjoy your visit!

  3. have fun! hope you brought a bathing suit, it's still smokin' hot here!

  4. Wow - have fun!! I'm jealous...

  5. How perfect!!
The best friends are the ones you can go forever without seeing or even talking to and then just pick right up where you left off.

I hope you had a great visit!

  6. That is so true. I've always appreciated my friends, but more so as life gets busier after marriage and kids. Time spent w/friends just gets so precious and those little escapes are, oh so wonderful.

Enjoy your time in Newport, which will still be way cooler than most places in SoCal. We all need at least one friend like that who understands what we need at precisely the right time.

  7. Awe!!! I just got chills reading this! I am so lucky to have you in my life, and it was such a wonderful night having you there to be apart of my graduation!

    Love you to pieces!

  8. Oh how much fun! I hope you have a great time- a much needed mini-break!

I launched my new site today, excited and nervous to know what you think! Have a great weekend@

  9. I like that quote and it's so true. I don't know about you but I feel like i have so many different types of friends and they all have different interests and personalities yet I love hanging out with each of them. I also agree with Claire-my friendships from college and high school are so distant now simply bc of the distance. But FB, the blog etc..all help us connect more. Hope you had a great time with your BF.

  10. I couldn't get by without my girls. I get to see my bestie for a getaway next month and the rest of my bridesmaids for another one in Dec. I can't wait!
