Season of change.

We may not be able to control the forecast, but we most definitely control the menu.  When you combine summer's end with autumn's arrival~ magical moments are created in your very own kitchen.  Moments that entail late summer plum pudding cakes, and slow roasted tomatoes... banana fig bread and roasted red bell pepper pesto... savory pumpkin & goat cheese risotto stirred with a crisp glass of rosé in hand, and enjoyed with a deep dark glass of red.

Fall may not have made it's way outdoors, but right here, right now, within our four walls, it is happening.

Not only do we run the show when it comes to our daily menu, but we are also in full command of our daily calenders.  Just another way to set the tone, rather than letting the temperature tone set us.  To celebrate the arrival of a new season, to initiate change where needed, and to {intentionally} keep some things just as they are.  As much as I am ready to welcome the season of slouchy knits & black leggings... scented candles & cozy blankets... soups & stews & pies & warm beverages galore... there are a few elements that I am not quite ready to remove from the "schedule".

As I plot out the calendar, or take on a new day... a new week- I'm making a concerted effort to embrace the renewing, invigorating, warm & welcoming essence of autumn, while holding on to a bit of the youthful spirit that summer exudes.  Many more seasonal meals be made... favorite old & new traditions to enjoy {especially this one :)}.

{Please join me in continuing the conversation over at Pink Moon Daily, to discuss this quintessential 'holding-onto-summer-while-embracing-autumn' tradition, as well as this "transitional" month, a little further...}

  2. OOh my goodness, the autumn is doing something terrifying to my spelling. Sorry, here I go again....Funny these months in CA isn't it, some days hot enough to go to the pool, other days chilliness. Love how your photos has the shadow foreshadowing the darker months. Heading over to your other blog now (so impressed you are keeping two blogs happy - how do you do it?)

    1. Well, I *thought I was going to move in the direction of “less wordy” (in order to maintain my ‘3x’s a week schedule’- self-imposed, of course), but seeing my last few “word heavy” posts, that direction doesn’t seem to be happening. Which means my posts get done, and my house remains a mess ;).

  3. I love this idea!! I don't know why I hadn't thought of it before. I live in Tampa so always get so frustrated that it's so so so hot when people are reveling in fall elsewhere, but you're right! We can make changes that we can control. I've been drinking pumpkin coffee and eating pumpkin waffles at home while burning fall candles. And even though I can't run out in boots and scarves and layers yet, it doesn't mean I can't make changes inside the house. Great post. Love it!

  6. Big foodie confession here: I've never made risotto from scratch. Only from the box. (as she holds her head down in shame). Do you have a tried and true recipe? I'm putting this on my must do list for fall cooking and pumpkin and goat cheese sounds fab.

    1. giada has so many good recipes! She’s the one that started~ and has continued to inspire the creation of so many SCRUMPTIOUS risotto dishes… her red wine risotto (an old ‘valentine episode’)- i believe was the very first one that i made… i was hooked. Something therapeutic about the making of this dish. time-consuming, but a good way to sloooow down and enjoy each and every flavor element/addition.

      {thank you for feeling free to confess. i confessed to Erin the other day (such small steps) that i did not watch “the office.” :)}
