Summer styling.

Well, we're about a month in, and I'm here to report confess--  I've taken the term "summer laziness" a bit too far.

Although I've gloated about "losing the frump" & gaining a new cut... a new color, I've sadly fallen into the throw-your-hair-up-into-a-ponytail-&-wear-the-closest-thing-to-a-pair-of-pajamas-that-aren't-actually-"pajamas"-routine.  If I have actual plans, I put a little (or a lot) more effort forth.  But if a trip to the library, Starbucks, & the grocery store are the primary activities of the day, then my appearance takes a deep dive into the pool of BLAH.  So, on Friday afternoon, when I read Michelle's post {Let's Get Dressed}- in which she "propose[d] a little project...seven days of 'getting dressed' real clothes, real shoes, a dab of makeup, maybe even a pedicure"- I was beyond ready to commit.

I used to ramble on about S.M.A.R.T. (specific... measurable... attainable... realistic... time-sensitive) goals in my meetings.  Well, Michelle's goal is in fact smart, and it may seem silly to some, but it was just what I needed to get my act together when it comes to 'getting dressed' (for proof, click here!).

Now my hair is another story altogether.  I've sported the ponytail do for, oh-- pretty much everyday of summer thus far.  For one thing- it's hot.  And of course there's the time-factor.  But really, when it comes right down to it- I'm lacking in the 'hair-do skills' department.

This week, I'm committed to learning and trying out a few new styles.  There's a billion tutorials floating around the web, but for now, I'm starting with simple, fool-proof, summer do's- that are in fact, doable.

Like the ones below...
{and I realize that the last one is actually a ponytail, but it's a little fancier, right?}

We're off to the "Happiest Place on Earth" (aka- Disneyland) for the next couple of days!  A perfect occasion to get dressed & do my hair.

My {hair-stylist} mom will sure be proud.

  3. love the comment about throwing on the closest thing to pjs...i do the same and all my closest to pj's outfits are usually gray or black and i always think, i should wear something brighter, but it's too late, i've committed to the blah...love the beach waves hairstyle - upper right...totally doable and great looking.

  5. I am totally inspired ... as a girl with long hair, the summer months find it twisted up in a low bun most days ... I know that there is so many more cool, fun styles to try with it ...

Have a blast on your trip :)

  6. I'm good if I style my hair first thing in the morning and get into my climate controlled office before the temperature rises. But when I get home after 5pm, my hair goes up on top of my head. And if I'm going to be out and about, in and out of AC, my hair will likely be on top of my head. Like you said, the summer is just too hot not to have comfortable hair! I like to think I've giving my hair a healthy break from the curling iron on those days. ;)

  7. A few years ago I bought a couple of fun summer dresses and skorts (gasp!) at Athleta.com and I have to say that they help to make me look good while feeling like I'm wearing pj's! I do need to work on my hair though!
I hope you're having am awesome time away!

  9. Ahem...I LOVE messy hair in the summer. It's easy and a bit sexy. Embrace it. I spray some Bumble and Bumble beach spray in mine, let it air dry and twist it up in a messy pile on my head. VOILA! Sexy bedhead messy up-do. (That's what I'm tellin' myself anyway).
As for clothes....I just wrote to Michelle. It's 110 degrees here. I can't stand to get dressed. Today I managed to pull on a black stretchy tank top and my chambray j.crew miniskirt. I'm sporting my bracelets and my new turquoise rock necklace. Go ME! It's too hot for shoes though. I'm just gonna redneck it in my bare feet.
    Enjoy Disney!
    Best,

  13. Fishtail braid is my favorite to wear at the beach after being in the water! Run a dollop of conditioner through your hair and fishtail it! Lay in the sun to dry off and you're deep conditioning at the same time! Woohoooo yay for multitasking!
And totally in love with Biel's necklace

YAY YOU LOOK GREAT IN THE DRESS!!!! (http://twitpic.com/5oavs5) :) :)

  17. You look so cute in your photos, I totally believe Rebecca. I'm not buying it! ;) I so want to dress up a little bit, but where I live, life is sooooo casual. If I ramp up the wardrobe even a smidge, people wonder if I'm going to a party. Argh!
