Spanish sangria {quick & slow}.

{i will spare you the reasons as to "why i haven't been blogging [again]"~
because really, it's all the same reasons i've mentioned in the past.
i will just say [again] that i'm happy to be back.}

as of thursday, at 12:31pm...
summer has officially commenced.
the list has been written.
patio {& dog} cleaned.

sangria sipped.

{one of the easiest "cocktails" to make, and oh so pretty}

spanish sangria
{2 ways}

slow
*slightly adapted from 101 sangrias & pitcher drinks

serves 8

1 bottle spanish red wine*
1/4 c cognac
1/4 c citronge (recipe called for orange curacao; could use grand marnier or cointreau)
1/4 c simple syrup
2 oranges, cut into half-wheels
2 peaches, cut into cubes
2 lemons, cut into half-wheels

Place all of the ingredients in a large glass or ceramic container and stir well.  Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours (up to overnight).  Serve over ice.  Garnish with additional fruit if desired.

*I used two buck chuck, based a recommendation from a tapas cooking class in which we made the "quick" version (recipe below).

quick
*hipcooks version

serves 8

2 bottles of red wine (i.e. two buck chuck)
3 oranges, cut into half-wheels
3 limes, cut into half-wheels
½ a bottle of mango passionfruit juice (from tj's, or other tropical juice)

dash of citronge (or grand marnier, or cointreau)

Place all of the ingredients in a large glass or ceramic container and muddle*.  Serve over ice.

*This can be made up to 8 hours ahead of time, but the muddling releases some of the juices into the sangria, eliminating the need to infuse on their own, over time (in other words, a good way to "cheat" when you need instant gratification, or simply don't have time to wait).

{p.s. somewhere along the line, in my extended break- for reasons completely unbeknownst to me, my anonymous comments (aka SPAM) have SKYROCKETED. every single day, "they" inundate my posts.
i've held off on reinstalling word verification, but enough is enough.}

  1. Welcome back :) Sorry to hear about your spam problems, it's one a handful of reasons I'm leaving blogger. The grass might not be greener at wordpress, but we shall see. Your yard and summer life is looking very lovely! I love this time of year. I'm going to give your sangria a go this weekend in Palm Springs, thanks for the inspiration and recipe!! xx

  3. Happy summer! I am getting some crazy spam recently, too, and I'm not on blogger. Who knows what's up.

    I make a very similar sangria to the one on top but haven't tried it w/cognac. Will give it a try :)

    1. i want to bad to write more about the hilarious (well, not really) comments/topics, but seriously- i don't want to enter anything into the "search engine" that will perpetuate the issue!! i mean, really it was bad. my inbox kept buzzing for a few days/weeks(?) with new comment alerts.

      yes, do try!

  4. Welcome back, Torrie! Don't feel bad about not blogging--I'm back after a much longer break. You've been much more dedicated than me. ;) BTW, I'm getting a crazy amount of spam getting through my askimet filter lately, too!

    1. katie! can i just tell you how happy i am that YOU'RE back??? i have seen your new site (LOVE), and will go back to comment (if you can believe it, this was the very first time that- along with my 'blog-writing-break', i actually took a blog-reading/commenting-break). normally, even if i'm not posting, i still love to read other's posts. but i was finding that i'd use up all of my "reading time" online as opposed to the many books that continued to pile up on my nightstand (and everywhere else in my home).
      ... among many other areas that were not being attended to, as i'm sure you understand ;). but really, i'm happy we're back; i really can't emphasize enough how much i appreciate the friendships i've made via this little url. xoxo
